Finally, someone who understands cookbooks! I just found the first cookbook in a loooong time that has a photo with every recipe! This makes me so happy 🙂 Violet Bakery is a small but popular cake shop in London. Owned by pastry chef Claire Ptak, the most delicious looking baked goodies are sold there. But for everyone who does not live in the vicinity, or who would like to give the recipes a try themselves, the Violet Bakery Cookbook is now available.
The book is divided into parts of the day. Morning gives us a variety of breakfast muffins, scones and other delicious breakfast food. Recipes continue in Midday, with savoury tarts and quiches. The Afternoon is snack time. Banana bread and different cookies will be a perfect companion to a cup of tea. Surprisingly (or not, we are talking about a bakery cookbook here), the evening continues with all sorts of deliciousness. Ice cream and more cakes, yeah! The book concludes with the Violet Pantry, with a description of a number of often used ingredients. Some are very common, like eggs or salt, others a bit more strange, as for example the candied angelica and a variety of jams. Fortunately there are descriptions available as for how to prepare these.
The recipes don’t look super styled or perfect, but more homey and certainly delicious. Also the bakery itself looks amazing. If I ever happen to be in London, I will definitely visit them. My favorite recipe in the book was the Chocolate Sunken Soufflé Cake. I haven’t tried it yet, but it definitely makes the top of my to-bake list. Look at this, how can anyone say no to so much gooey and chocolate?
Seriously, Claire Ptak is obviously someone who knows baking and making cookbooks. If you love baking, you’ll definitely find some cool new recipes in this book. Don’t expect them to be healthy though, just follow the authors advice: If you’re going to treat yourself, it had better be good.
